Hard Work Paying Off
Hello all,
Action on the ground
Lyle, a one man powerhouse, has done a marvelous job of our office frontage where he has installed a safety rail, our new noticeboard, and a handrail for the steps entering the office. He donated our new river heights whiteboard and has completed the safety handrail along the concrete causeway on the walking track. This work was partially funded by the bottle / can recycling, another regular job of Lyle‘s.
He has not been alone in his endeavours to manage and improve our property. Janice, Lorraine and Kaz have continued working on their various outdoor planting projects, and Kaz has roped in partner John to help in numerous ways. CInnamon Jarrett has also volunteered time to our revegetation efforts.
Cafe volunteers work week in week out, and in doing so, continue to not only provide a great spot for locals, but also to attract more passers by to drop in and discover more about our facility.
New Shed
You will have seen the new shed down at the bottom end of the campground. The construction has been managed by the council and is slowly nearing completion.
That shed is destined to be a community workshop – an asset for our whole community. It will house our community’s disaster relief equipment and a bank of tools. There are many possibilities for use of this space and we will be holding an open day in the new year and asking for community members to share ideas of uses that may provide services and or support employment opportunities for locals.
Drainage Work
We have been addressing the ongoing sinkhole issue in numerous ways. One of the key factors is to stop water pooling on the ground in places. Sam Fenning has spent time in the last few months working on our drainage, and recently he, Rory and Alex Harper connected up a drainage pipe from our rainwater tank overflow which was contributing significantly to the pooling of water below the big shed.
AGM
On December 6th at 10:00am, we will be having our Annual General Meeting at the big shed. Our association is run by the members who come together at least once a year to elect the management committee team for the next 12 months. We would like to encourage any local people to become members. You don’t actually have to do anything apart from try and come to an annual general meeting, but of course if you would like to play a role in the ongoing development of this precious community resource, you would be very welcome. It costs $5 to join with an annual fee of $5. Even if you do not want to play an active role, being a member gives you the opportunity to know what's going on and demonstrate your support of our community owned asset.
You may also consider nominating for a position on the committee. All committee positions become vacant and members can nominate others to be on the committee. If you are already a member, you will receive information about the nomination process. If you are not a member, please call or drop in to join up and we can tell you about the nomination process.
River Business
Now that the weather is warming up, the river business is resuming with a bang. We have our regular school group from Armidale coming this month, and Neil has already been busy organising river trips for visitors.
The Payoff
In the last financial year, we saw an incredible 83% increase in accommodation bookings from the previous year.
