What’s On
Bush Tucker Community Info Day
This Sunday 22nd at 2pm
If you are interested in finding out about ,or being involved in, our Bush Tucker Trail, we will be getting together on Sunday at 2pm outside of the office (why not come and have a Wagtails lunch before that?).
We will be going for walk along the trail (if you are up to it - it may be slippery if rain continues) and having a general chat about what’s going on.
Volunteer Profile - Maia Chater
Maia, who has recently turned 16, is both a worker and a volunteer at our Canoe Centre. She has been volunteering in Wagtails since it opened. I asked Maia a few questions about herself.
Question: Why do you volunteer at the Canoe Centre? Maia: It makes me happy and it's good experience.
Question: You work and volunteer in the cafe and in the office. What's skills have you learned? Maia: Computer skills mostly, and communicating with people over the phone and when they come in. In the cafe it's greeting people, food handling and coffee-making.
Question: Why is it canoe centre important to the Nymboida Community? Maia: Since the cafe has been open, it is a really nice spot for the community to catch up with each other. Its very peaceful as well, I think the locals really appreciate it.
Question: What do you like to do in your spare time. Maia: A lot of school activities mostly, sports in Grafton and writing club. I also do drama at The Criterion Theatre. Right now we are doing a play of the Sound of Music and I am one of the Von Trapp children, which is pretty cool. I have animals and I take care of them. I also help mum at home and I enjoy playing games with my sisters. And I play the piano!

Book Exchange
Our small, but well used book collection, is now located in the veranda of the Canoe Shed. It is better protected in that space and we are in the process of tidying up that space. We have too many books for the one shelf, so if anyone has a n unwanted bookshelf , please consider sendng it our way.
Never a Dull Moment
There’s no doubt about it. Life at the Canoe Centre is full of fun and hard work, and it is never dull. There is always a new surprise ready to pop out at any moment.
Tonight, crisis was averted. The large group staying reported brown murky water coming from the taps. This is not unusual after heavy rain as the floodwaters are often muddy and our filter system can get overloaded. It was early in the evening when the call came in, and Neil, Lyle and Ron swung into action, replacing the filters and flushing the pipe. Sincere thanks to you all who came out on a cold damp Friday night to sort it out.
